Ananthagiri Hills are known to be the oldest location of forested civilization at an altitude of 1168 in the Ranga Reddy district 10 km from Vikarabad, Telangana, India, and 80 km from Hyderabad. It is situated at a distance of about 90 km from Hyderabad City. The hills are the main water source for Osmansagar and Himayathsagar. It is considered one of the dense forests in Telangana region.

Temples in Ananthagiri

Ananthagiri has a famous temple called Anantha Padmanabha Swamy Temple located in this forested region, which is also the birthplace of Musi River, also called as Muchkunda River, which originates in Ananthagiri Hills 90 kilometers to the west of Hyderabad and flowed due east for almost all of its course.

Anantha Padmanabha Swamy Temple is located in Ananthagiri hills, about 75 kilometers from Hyderabad. Lord Vishnu is in the form of Sri Anantha Padmanabha Swamy and Ananthagiri is named after him. It is a combination of both religion and architecture is this temple that attracts people from various places across the country.

Near the temple, there is this lake called Nagasamudram Lake or kotipally reservoir which is located near to a dam and at a distance of regarding 20 km from Ananthagiri hills. The lake is also known as Kotipally Reservoir as it is also a masonry dam. This lake facilitates kayaking, swimming, and boating for some reasonable prices. It is one of the recreational places to visit in Ananthagiri Hills. It offers one of the most serene views during monsoon seasons.

Ananthagiri Hills are also considered one of the earliest human habitat areas in South India. Ancient caves, medieval fort-like structures, and ancient temples show the history of the area. Regarded to be one of the oldest inhabited areas in Telangana, the hills possess an array of ancient monuments and caves that a treat for the sore eyes. In addition, they also have aromatic coffee plantations that attract coffee lovers from all over the country.

It is a much sought-after place, which is covered, by red soil and ideal for some adventure sports. Visitors rate it as one of the most beautiful places for a weekend getaway from Hyderabad. The road is in good condition, which takes you into the dense forests with beautiful trees and streams all along the way.

There are two trekking trails in the forests, one that begins from the Anantha Padmanabha Swamy Temple and another that begins about 0.5 kilometers from the temple, towards Kerelli, featuring a vast stretch of lush green forests, scenic views, and perfect spots for trekking and adventure sports;

Near the lighthouse, if you take a 2 km diversion, you can reach the topmost point in the Vikarabad region, namely Godamguda ViewPoint, which offers an excellent viewpoint. The small reservoir, the lush green jungle, the jungle trail are all an added attraction to this place covered by thick vegetation, small rivulets, and beautiful streams with fresh water.

There is a vast Ananthgiri waterfall located in this place that flows from a great height, offering some scintillating views from the top.

The Hills carry a charm of their own. You can relax on the greenery at the night camping and gaze at the stars, or you can even go on an adrenaline rush by taking a short trek over these hills.

They are generally associated with an Araku Valley trip and the two are one for most visitors as they are located only 26 kilometers away, wherein the hills are nestled amidst Araku and Vizag. Both the hills and the valley are named for their beauty, but these are linked to other locations as well. So if you are on a trip to Ananthgiri hills, you must consider the possibility of visiting the Araku Valley.
